Loftin Homes is a family owned business located in Saline County, Arkansas. For more than 30 years, Loftin Homes has been building homes in the central Arkansas area. With more than 500 homes built to date, we're pretty easy to check out. We're one of only a handful of 20 year members of the Saline County Home Builders Association. Most area material suppliers are aquainted with us from past or present business relationships. Ask around and you'll find someone we've built a home for or someone we're doing business with. We've built starter homes, lakehouses, executive homes, underground homes, patio homes, basement houses and solar homes. Energy efficiency has always been at the top of our list of important values to deliver to our customers. Nothing we've ever offered compares to the value of the programs offered by the Energytek Homes program.

Loftin Homes is proud to be the exclusive Energytek Homes Certified Builder for the state of Arkansas. Energytek Homes is not just a rubber stamped "energy efficiency" logo a builder can display for advertising purposes. Energytek Homes efficiency standards require a litany of tests and standards that each home must meet to be accepted into the program. The Energytek Homes program far exceeds the Arkansas Energy Code, International Building Code and Energy Star® requirements. The standard Energytek Homes package can save you hundreds of dollars each month in utility costs, also an even higher energy standard and increased savings program may be available in a limited format in the Energytek Homes - Solar Plus program, (ask your salesperson if the Solar Plus program is available). This program utilizes all of the Energytek Homes conservation features plus many other upgrades including solar hot water heating. The Energytek Homes - Solar Plus program implements a manufacturers reporting participation schedule that allows you as a consumer to gain added value to your home. The Energytek Homes - Solar Plus program is not available in all neighborhoods, but where it is available it offers unsurpassed value for the homebuyer and requires very little on your part to meet the criteria to qualify as a participant.

Interest rates have always been important to homebuyers, but in today's homebuilding market the most important feature is the energy consumption of a house. Interest rates may vary from time to time but the cost of energy only goes one way and that's straight up. The Energytek Homes - Solar Plus program allows you to purchase a home that will cost you less to own each month compared to a house without the Energytek Homes - Solar Plus program. And as energy costs continue to rise, your savings will only increase and your property value should climb along with your savings. The days of simply saying that a home is "energy efficient" means absolutely nothing without written documentation. All builders say their homes are "energy efficient" but the truth is that added insulation or double pane windows do very little to insure your utility costs are low if they are not part of a well designed home that implements an overall energy plan that can be independently verified in writing. Your comfort, cost of operation, and cost of maintaining your home are what really matters and with an Energytek Homes - Solar Plus home we document the projected energy consumption of each individual home and back it up with a warranty that insures your maintenance costs also remain low. Independent energy audits and inspections are performed on each home. Before a home is built each plan is computer modeled and the energy features are designed for that particular house, then energy inspections occur during construction including pressure testing of the ductwork as well as pressure testing the house when it is completed. Then a final energy survey is done to assure that the house meets the standards set out prior to construction. Then and only then is the house certified and enrolled into the Energytek Homes - Solar Plus program. Whether you are purchasing a home for a lifetime of monthly energy savings, or you're buying a home for a stepping-stone to your next home, the Energytek Homes - Solar Plus program is your best value in today's homebuilding market.

Findings of a recent survey of new homes in Arkansas

The Arkansas Energy Office released their findings of a recent survey of 100 new homes built in central and northwest Arkansas. Here are some of the results:
  • Only about half of the new homes surveyed passed the Arkansas Energy Code requirements.
  • Slab insulation was applied properly to only 2 of 81 homes.
  • Ceilings were under or inconsistently insulated.
  • Knee walls were poorly insulated with exposed batts.
  • Fireplaces caused leakage ranging from 5% to 20%.
  • Heating and cooling systems were oversized and most ducts were not sealed with mastic, only duct tape.
These were just a few of the things that were noted as problems by the Arkansas Energy Office that caused about half the homes to fail what is a very minimal energy standard. Most builders don't set out to do a poor job of energy conservation, they just don't know any better. Building a home that saves you money costs the builder money. A home must be looked at as an energy system, a "machine" if you will. All of the parts must work together to get the result you need to maximize energy conservation. Energy saving products are normally "hidden benefits" to the average homebuyer. Unlike flooring, cabinets and brick, money saving energy features are not visible to the average buyer. Comparing energy features on homes is becoming the number one asked for documentation from today's homebuyer. If a builder can't provide test results and independent documentation that verify all the right things were done to guarantee your utility costs, then you are unlikely to get an "energy efficient" home.
